I'd be remiss if I didn't give credit and thanks to a publication which really is the road warrior's bible to the great north. For those who have gone this way you'll know I'm talking about the Milepost, a compendium of information almost mile by mile (and there are a lot of miles!) that is full of tidbits on places to see, road conditions you can expect, upcoming camping locations and RV parks, and most importantly, where there is gas along the route.
On the cover it says "Since 1949, the bible of North Country travel!" (The Alaska Highway, sometimes still referred to as the 'Alcan', completed as a military route in 1942 opened to public travel in1948) and it really is a must have for anyone with the audacity to drive up this way. We were using the 2015 edition as the 2016 version wasn't off the presses when we were planning our trip but it does come out yearly with updated information.
There hasn't been a day we haven't opened its dog-eared pages to answer some question or another. We didn't need any help getting lost, thank you very much, but when we did, the Milepost was there telling us where we were and where we (me) had gone wrong. The publisher also puts out Alaska magazine which does a wonderful job of chronicling life up here.
Seems like a MUST HAVE publication..........Milepost..........
